If you don’t want time limits, share the view with the crowds, or you just want to simply sit back and enjoy the scenery, Camping is the best way to appreciate the Whitsunday Islands. With multiple locations to choose from, you can find a location to suit your desires, or you can even visit multiple locations to maximize your experience.
We have all the camping equipment you need to make your camping trip perfect
Just don’t have quite everything you need? We have a range of equipment for hire. From the whole kit to pots and pans or snorkelling equipment, we can provide you with everything you need. We have full camping kits available for hire for those who have not come prepared, or just flown in.
Paddle the Islands at your leisure
Whether you are just wanting to hire a sit on kayak to explore a little further, or to entertain the kids, Salty Dog Sea Kayaking has you covered. We can even drop you off at one location and you can kayak to another.
Our vessel has been specially designed to carry Sea Kayaks and can transport them to your camp location.
Book your Camping Permit
Before Camping in a park, forest, reserve or Island you must obtain a camp permit and pay your camping fees.
Camping permits can be booked online.
Camp Equipment Limit Onboard
Limit is for 2 persons
Scamper Carry-On Camp Equipment Guide (Per 2 People)
To ensure safe and fair use of space onboard Scamper, all camp equipment for two passengers must fit within the allocated trolley space of 1.5 m x 1 m.
Recommended Camp Equipment
Tent – Small dome tent preferred (compact & quick to set up).
Sleeping gear
2x self-inflating mats (best for compact packing)
2x sleeping bags
Cooking & eating gear
Cutlery & cooking utensils
Plates, bowls, and cups
Small camping stove & gas canister (securely stored)
Food & drink storage
1x 35 L lockable dry-food box
1x 55L esky for cold food & drinks (lockable lid recommended)
Snorkeling gear – mask, snorkel, fins.
Camp seating – small folding chairs allowed (no tables required as most campsites have picnic tables).
Backpack – small backpack with clothes & personal items.
Toiletries – must be kept in the lockable box to prevent animal access.
Extra essentials
Biodegradable toilet paper (in case QPWS toilets run out)
Torch or lantern
Sunscreen, insect repellent, first-aid kit
Important Restrictions
No King Daddy Swags – too large; they use the entire space allowance for two passengers.
No beach trolleys – unsafe to transport on the vessel and ineffective on sand (they sink).
All food & toiletries must be kept in a secure, lockable box – prevents animals getting into tents or bags.
Travelling for Multiple Nights?
If you are camping for several nights and require extra gear:
Let us know in advance so we can allow additional space and factor in weight and vessel capacity.
Extra space is charged accordingly – all items must be listed so we can account for space, weight, and safety.
- Oversize or excessive gear will not be allowed – if additional gear has not been pre-organized with us, it may be refused if the vessel is full. The vessel has weight limitations, and space is carefully allocated per passenger for safety reasons.
